What Does The Bible Say About Artificial Intelligence?

John: Master, in these times, people are creating things they call “artificial intelligence,” machines that think and learn on their own. What would the scriptures say about such things?

Jesus: Though the scriptures do not mention machines or what you call artificial intelligence, there are principles that can guide understanding. At the heart of creation is the wisdom and power of God. As it is written, “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1). Human creativity and knowledge are gifts from God, reflecting the image of the Creator, for you were made to be stewards of the earth and its resources.

Philip: So, Lord, if people develop technology like this, is it wrong? Could it challenge the place of mankind?

Jesus: No, Philip, technology itself is not evil. As with all things, it depends on how it is used. Remember the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30). Those who wisely used what they were given multiplied it for good. But those who buried their talents in fear or misused them missed the blessing. So it is with all inventions—when used for good, they can serve and bless, but if used to harm, they can lead people astray.

Matthew: Yet, Lord, some may worry that as these machines grow more powerful, they might control people, or even replace human work. What wisdom does the Bible offer about such concerns?

Jesus: Matthew, do not be anxious. “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). No creation of man can replace the value of a soul. Only humans bear the image of God, and only you are called to love, to reason, and to choose freely to follow me. Wisdom must guide your actions, so ask yourselves: Does this technology draw you closer to God and neighbor, or does it lead to pride and harm?

Andrew: Then, Lord, what should be the right way to think about using such things?

Jesus: Seek always the Kingdom of God first, and let your heart be pure. Whether with technology or with anything else, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind… and thy neighbor as thyself” (Matthew 22:37, 39). Let all things, even artificial intelligence, be used in service to love, justice, and the care of creation, not in ways that oppress or lead people away from truth. You are to be the light of the world, and even in new advancements, let that light shine.
