Sacred Heart

Jesus: My dear friends, you have heard of the recent words of Pope Francis, who seeks to illuminate the path of ecclesial renewal through a renewed devotion to the Sacred Heart. This devotion, deeply rooted in our scriptures, reflects the boundless love I have for all. How does this resonate with you, and what scriptures come to mind as we reflect on the significance of the Sacred Heart?

John: Master, when I think of the Sacred Heart, I am reminded of your words in the Gospel: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Your love is the foundation of our faith and the source of our hope.

Jesus: Indeed, John. My heart is full of love for each one of you and for all humanity. This love is patient and kind, never failing. It is my desire that this love be the cornerstone of the Church, guiding its renewal and outreach to a world in need.

Peter: Lord, I am reminded of the time you restored me after I denied you. You asked me three times if I loved you, and each time I affirmed my love, you instructed me to feed your sheep (John 21:15-17). Your heart was full of mercy and forgiveness. This devotion to your Sacred Heart reminds me of the depth of your compassion.

Jesus: Yes, Peter. My love seeks to restore and heal. As Pope Francis prepares his document, it is my hope that this message of mercy and compassion reaches all corners of the earth, especially to those who feel lost or broken.

Andrew: Lord, your invitation to follow you and bring others to you has always been a great privilege. The Sacred Heart devotion encourages us to share your love with others. As it is written, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Your heart is a refuge for the weary.

Jesus: Well said, Andrew. My heart is indeed a refuge. It is open to all who seek solace and peace. Pope Francis’s call for prayer and reflection on peace is crucial in these troubled times. The world is weary from conflicts and wars, and my heart aches for peace.

Thaddaeus: Master, your prayer for peace resonates deeply. As Pope Francis prays for peace in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, and Myanmar, we are reminded of your words: “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9). How can we, as your followers, actively contribute to this peace?

Jesus: Thaddaeus, you have touched upon a vital aspect of our mission. To be peacemakers, we must embody the love and compassion of my heart. Reach out to those in conflict with understanding and forgiveness. Advocate for justice and reconciliation. Remember, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you” (John 13:34).

Philip: Master, this devotion to your Sacred Heart also calls us to a deeper understanding of your love. As you said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). Your sacrifice is the ultimate expression of your love.

Jesus: Yes, Philip. My sacrifice was out of love for all humanity. Let this devotion to my Sacred Heart be a reminder of that love, and may it inspire all to live in love and unity. Let us pray together for Pope Francis, that his document may touch many hearts and guide the Church towards renewal and peace.

All Disciples: Amen.
