Is God portrayed differently in the teachings of Jesus compared to the Old Testament?

Jesus: Verily, I say unto thee, the nature of God is unchanging, as it is written, “I am the Lord, I change not” (Malachi 3:6). However, in my teachings, I have sought to reveal the fullness of the Father’s love and grace, aspects that were not always as clearly perceived in the Old Testament.

Philip: Master, in the Law of Moses, we see God as just and demanding. How then do you speak so often of His mercy and love?

Jesus: Philip, think of it as the light of dawn breaking into the darkness. The Old Testament revealed God’s holiness and justice, like the first rays of dawn. But now, in my coming, the full light of God’s love and mercy is shining forth. “The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ” (John 1:17).

John: Lord, does this mean the Old Testament is no longer relevant to us?

Jesus: No, John. The Old Testament is the foundation upon which I build. It is written, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil” (Matthew 5:17). The love, mercy, and grace I teach and embody do not negate the Old Testament; they fulfill and complete its teachings, revealing the heart of the Father more fully.

Andrew: So, the God of the Old Testament and the God you reveal are the same?

Jesus: Indeed, Andrew. It is the same God, but now revealed more completely through my teachings and my life. I have come to show the depth of God’s love, a love that is willing to forgive and embrace all who come to Him.
